Essex Senior League

first points of the season. Bradley Quinn scored late on in

match report
16/17th August 2001
The Chairman writes:
It's only just over 50 days since our club was formed but Saturday 18 August
is another landmark for Enfield Town with our first competitive game. But
whatever happens on the pitch tomorrow against Basildon United everyone
connected with our new club can be pleased with the progress we have made so
far.
Our performances in the pre season friendlies have been very promising to say
the least and we have surprised a lot of people with the quality of our
football. Jim Chandler, his coaching staff and the players have done a great
job to be able to produce such entertaining performances in the limited time
that has been available to them.
Our support at these fixtures has also been very encouraging, so much so that
even our away fixtures have seemed like home games. And this has been
reflected in season ticket sales which are now well in excess of 100. We will
almost definitely be the best supported side in the Foresters Essex Senior
League.
We are particularly pleased to have obtained the sponsorship of the First
National and we look forward to developing our relationship with them
over the coming season. We have also been delighted with the response we have
had from local businesses who have taken out advertising space in the match
programme and around the pitch.
Of course everyone connected with the club recognises that we still have a
very long way to go, and that there will be set backs on and off the pitch
from time to time, but with everyone pulling together the future for our club
looks very promising indeed.

First National sign up with ETFC
Chairman David Bryant (left) welcomes Richard Castello of First National as Enfield Town's
main sponsors.
Enfield Town chairman David Bryant this evening welcomed Richard Castello of the First
National as Enfield Town's main sponsors for the current season. Mr Castello did not need
any persuading at being given the opportunity to model the club home kit for the current season!
Mr Castello went on to say that: "First National are absolutely delighted to sponsor Enfield Town
Football Club in their inaugural season. Not only are we happy to support the local football
club, we are extremely happy to support the local community. We hope Enfield Town Football Club
win the league at their first try."

A message from Basildon United:-
"As you are all aware, this Saturday Enfield Town will be playing their first league game
and it just so happens that you'll be playing Basildon United FC. I run the
Official
Basildon United FC WebSite and have been religiously following Basildon United since the
start of last season.
A lot of work has been done at the club in the close season period by manager Steve Wheeler,
player John Doyle, Bernie the Groundsman and several other people to make the facilities
more pleasing on the eye (and nose) and a pleasure to use. You'll be pleased to hear that
the club has recently approached a brewer and have widened the choice of drinks at the club.
There will also be a burger van in the ground so food will also be available.
This is an important game for both clubs. For Basildon it will almost certainly be their
biggest gate since the 400 which turned up to see us play Concord Rangers in the league during
the 1997/98 season.
Once a month the club is host to 'Elvis Night', a celebration of 'The King' and his music
which is well attended by a large number of his fans and this month, being the month he
died, is an important one. It also is the night we play Enfield Town. I'm not an Elvis
fan but it's always a good night so hopefully you'll enjoy the after match entertainment too.
Well, I'm really looking forward to Saturday, even if the game is not a classic the atmosphere
should be great. As a Basildon supporter I hope we win but in the interest of neutrality
let's hope for 7-7 draw.
All of us at Basildon United look forward to your visit and hope you enjoy your stay with us.

Bradley Quinn scored an acrobatic equaliser to maintain Enfield Town's sequence
of draws against a physical Leyton Pennant side. Certainly not the genteel conduct
of the kind that was going on behind the Wadham Lodge social club as the ladies
played out a game of bowls to the encouragement of the drinkers watching from above. more...
Enfield Town have secured the services of experienced midfield player John
Ridout as preparations continue for the new season.
Ridout was a member of the Enfield FC Diadora League Championship winning
team of 1995 and has, more recently, been plying his trade with Harlow Town.
Experienced defender Bradley Brotherton has been handed the Enfield Town
captaincy. Manager Jim Chandler regards Brotherton as a great influence on
the younger players in the squad and feels that his leadership qualities
will prove to be beneficial in the season ahead.

For old visitors to Edgware's tiny but perfectly formed White Lion Ground, the
absence of the landmark pub on arrival at the ground was a little disconcerting. Whilst
most new visitors were also lost after being told to look out for the pub, it was the
drinkers union who fared worst. No bar till 7pm? What was going on? more...

Every game for Enfield Town is 'historic' these days. This one
even more so than most. This was the side's first win in a competitive

a goal behind in the opening moments of the match. more...
